The Family & Carer Consultant is a senior clinician who applies specialist clinical knowledge, experience and skills in building the capacity of the Mental Health Service to respond to, and in providing complex mental health care for, families and carers of a person who experiences a mental illness. Provision of services across the age spectrum as directed by Site Service Director.

The primary focus of this position is to facilitate the development of family and carer sensitive Mental Health Services at the clinical / operational level in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner. This position will have responsibility for the promotion of family and carer best practice within the St George Mental Health Service OR Sutherland Mental Health Service OR Eastern Suburbs Mental Health Service of SESLHD.This role will utilise a skills enhancement approach to working along-side allied health, nursing and medical staff to promote family / carer focused interventions.The position will support consumer and carer recovery utilising a systemic strengths focused perspective and whole of family approach.

In addition, this role provides information, advocacy, education and clinical interventions to families and carers of mental health consumers and who reside in the Local Health District.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment / engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.

A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.

In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.

Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.
