Job summary

UnitingCare Children, Young People and Families - Brisbane QLD seeks ICU Registered Medical Officers for casual, 6- or 12-month contracts with the potential for extension. The ICU is part of SAWMH, offering a contemporary learning environment and opportunities for research within the ICU of the Future.

You will manage admissions, participate in ward rounds, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. Requires AHPRA registration, basic medical degree, and at least 12 months ICU experience;

Qualifications

• Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
• Medical degree from a recognised medical school, with a minimum of three years’ postgraduate experience.
• At least 12 months’ experience in an ICU; exposure to cardiac surgical patients highly regarded.
• Strong clinical judgement and ability to work in a fast-paced critical care environment.
• Willingness to contribute to ICU teaching and learning activities.

Responsibilities

• Perform a full admission on all patients transferred or admitted to the Unit.
• Attend ward rounds led by ICU specialists.
• Liaise with treating VMO’s as appropriate.
• Attend MERT & CODE calls.
• Clinical assistance for Ward RMO as required.
• Assist with unit educational programs and Morbidity and Mortality meetings.
• Research opportunities are available.

St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital (SAWMH), Spring Hill, is seeking ICU Registered Medical Officers for casual, 6- or 12-month contract positions, with the possibility of extension.

SAWMH is a 250 bedded hospital and part of UnitingCare, providing health and community services to thousands of people every day through its services.

The Intensive Care Unit at SAWMH is the first private hospital to introduce the ‘ICU of the Future’ in 3 of its 15 bedspaces. These 3 beds have been developed with the patient at the forefront to optimize patient recovery. There are substantial research opportunities from within the ICU and the Critical Care Research Group (CCRG).

Role Description

• The position reports directly to the Director of the ICU and his Deputies.
• The position is CICM accredited for Limited General 6 months Training.

What you'll bring

• Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
• Medical degree from a recognised medical school, with a minimum of three years’ postgraduate experience
• At least 12 months’ experience working in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with exposure to cardiac surgical patients highly regarded
• Strong clinical judgement, initiative and the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced critical care environment
• A compassionate, patient-centred approach when supporting patients and their families
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide clear information and respond confidently to patient and family enquiries
• The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
• A commitment to ongoing professional development, including keeping up to date with current medical and critical care practices and literature
• A willingness to contribute to ICU teaching and learning activities
• An interest in progressing further in ICU or critical care training would be highly regarded
• Flexibility to work a rotating 12-hour roster, including day shifts (8am-8pm) and night shifts (8pm-8am)
