Job summary

James Hardie in Sydney is seeking a skilled Fitter to join the maintenance team. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will install, maintain and service mechanical equipment to minimise downtime while upholding safety, quality and cost standards.

Day shift: Mon-Fri, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM. You will work with electricians and engineers, perform inspections, and contribute to improvement projects across our 24/7 manufacturing operation.

Qualifications

• Mechanical trade qualifications – fitter machinist or fitter welder preferred.
• Experience working on mechanical maintenance of industrial machinery.
• Good problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work as part of a wider team to ensure the ongoing safety and reliable operation of the Manufacturing Plant.
• Passion and dedication for reliability and maintainability within a large manufacturing environment operating 24/7.
• An understanding of sound maintenance and engineering practice, coupled with the ability to apply this understanding in an operating Manufacturing Plant.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Install, remove and maintain mechanical equipment including valves, pumps, gearboxes, shafts, and guards.
• Inspect machinery online/offline, document condition, and recommend repairs.
• Collaborate with SMEs, electricians and engineers to investigate faults and minimise downtime.
• Perform welding, machining, equipment rebuilds, and pallet/truck repairs.
• Support planning and execution of maintenance, escalating risks as needed.
• Contribute to the identification, scoping, and implementation of improvement projects.
• Ensure operations comply with James Hardie health and safety standards.
