Downer Group is offering an exciting undergraduate scholarship for an enthusiastic Mechanical Engineering student to join the Minerals Technologies team within Downer’s Energy & Utilities. Based in Carrara, QLD or Adelaide, SA, the scholarship provides paid vacation work and exposure to the full project lifecycle while you continue your studies.

The Mick Hagarty Memorial Scholarship honors a long‑term Downer employee and supports with a $20,000 scholarship paid as $5,000 per semester, plus

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in the 2nd or 3rd year of a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (per ad).
• Maintain a GPA of 5.0 on a 7-point scale (or equivalent).
• Demonstrate financial need or be experiencing financial hardship.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Willingness to learn, ask questions and develop professionally.

Responsibilities

• Assist with technical investigations and engineering calculations.
• Support the development of engineering designs, specifications, scopes of work and technical documentation.
• Contribute to project deliverables and design reports.
• Assist with procurement, scheduling, cost control and project coordination activities.
• Liaise with vendors and stakeholders to support project outcomes.
• Participate in professional development opportunities and learn from experienced engineering professionals.
