Job summary

Fortescue is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to provide support for the Iron Bridge OPF, focusing on safe daily operation, maintenance and breakdown response. The role covers a broad fixed plant scope including crushers, HPGRs, screens, conveyors, pumps and tanks.

You will work with Maintenance, Operations and Planning teams to deliver practical engineering solutions, plant modifications, and capital projects while upholding safety standards and process discipline.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years’ fixed plant/mining experience.
• Experience across crushers, HPGRs, screens, conveyors, pumps, tanks and similar equipment.
• Proven ability to support maintenance, breakdown response and major shutdown activities.
• Strong fault-finding, problem-solving and failure investigation skills.
• Excellent planning, organisation, and stakeholder management across Operations, Maintenance, Planning, Projects.
• Working knowledge of SAP and MS Office; Navisworks advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide mechanical engineering support for the safe, reliable day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Iron Bridge OPF, including breakdown response and equipment troubleshooting.
• Support maintenance and shutdown activities with technical advice, engineering assessments, scope development, specifications, repair strategies, and execution support.
• Provide technical expertise across fixed plant equipment, including crushers, HPGRs, screens, conveyors, pumps, tanks, magnetic drums, and associated mechanical systems.
• Investigate equipment failures, recurring defects, and performance issues, conducting root cause analysis and implementing practical defect elimination and continuous improvement solutions.
• Develop and support engineering solutions, equipment upgrades, plant modifications, and capital projects, ensuring compliance with site requirements, engineering standards, and QA/QC expectations.
• Collaborate with Maintenance, Operations, and key stakeholders to improve safety, equipment availability, maintainability, production performance, and maintenance effectiveness while delivering engineering actions through to completion.
