Job summary

Weir Group is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to specialise in cyclone equipment design for mining applications. You will collaborate with designers, engineers, and project teams to deliver compliant, high‑quality solutions and support field activities across sites.

Ideal candidates have 2–5 years in cyclone systems, strong communication, and project engineering experience, with willingness to travel and uphold safety leadership. Brisbane, Artarmon NSW, or Perth locations available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 2-5 years of practical cyclone or cyclone cluster equipment experience.
  • Strong communication skills with customers, technical teams and leadership.
  • Experience in project engineering, including GA drawings reviews and design reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Expertise: become a subject matter expert in cyclone equipment design with cross‑discipline collaboration.
  • Customer & Regulatory Compliance: evaluate equipment against customer requirements and codes.
  • Project Delivery: ensure on‑time delivery within budget with proper documentation and design reviews.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: support technical discussions with sales, project managers, designers, and engineering leadership.
  • Field Engagement: participate in site visits, commissioning, testing at mines and plants.
  • Continuous Improvement: contribute to product stewardship and design analysis tasks.
  • Travel: occasional local and overseas travel to customer sites and factories.
  • Safety First: uphold zero harm and safety culture commitments.

What you’ll do
  • Technical Expertise: Become a subject matter expert in cyclone and cyclone cluster process equipment design, collaborating closely with designers, draftspeople, and discipline engineers to ensure technical excellence.
  • Customer & Regulatory Compliance: Evaluate equipment against customer requirements and regulatory standards, including Australian and international codes, to identify and close compliance gaps.
  • Project Delivery: Facilitate on-time delivery of equipment within budget by maintaining project documentation, conducting design reviews at key project milestones, and providing timely technical advice to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Support technical discussions and manage customer queries, working effectively with technical sales teams, project managers, designers, and engineering leadership to translate customer needs into engineering solutions.
  • Field Engagement: Participate in site visits, commissioning, testing, and development activities at mines, mineral processing plants, and factories, ensuring practical insights inform engineering decisions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to enhancing Weir Minerals Australia’s product stewardship program for process equipment and support design analysis tasks as required.
  • Travel Requirements: Occasional local and overseas travel to customer sites, factories, and mines to support commissioning, service, and stakeholder engagement.

What you’ll bring
Must-haves
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 2-5 years of practical experience with cyclone or cyclone cluster equipment in mining or related industries.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with customers, technical teams, and leadership.
  • Experience in project engineering, including reviewing GA drawings, managing technical queries, and participating in design reviews.
Nice-to-haves
  • Exposure to mine-site operations through site visits, commissioning, or field support.
  • Familiarity with FEA and CAD tools, preferably NX/Teamcenter.
  • Experience in mineral process equipment such as mill liners and screens.
  • Customer-facing engineering experience and stakeholder management skills.
