Job summary

The Design Technology Company (DTCo) in Melbourne seeks a Mechanical Engineer to join the North Melbourne team, delivering from concept through production release on defence, food processing, manufacturing and healthcare projects.

You will work in a hybrid arrangement (3 days in the office, 2 days from home) with responsibilities spanning design, documentation and regulatory compliance, contributing to cross-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical or Mechatronics).
• 2 to 5 years' post-graduate experience in a mechanical design or design engineering role.
• Proficiency in well-structured, complex 3D CAD modelling in Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks or similar, plus AutoCAD.
• A solid understanding of manufacturing methods (fabrication, machining, sheet metal) and design for manufacture.
• Working knowledge of AS 1100 drawing standards and GD&T.
• A strong ability to write technical documents and specifications for mechanical components, assemblies and systems, and communicate them clearly.
• Australian citizenship and eligibility for Baseline security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Mechanical design and development of components, assemblies and systems, from concept to production release.
• Interpreting client scope correctly and applying relevant engineering requirements, specifications and standards to each design.
• Engineering analysis, including design calculations, tolerance stack-ups, material selection and FEA where required.
• Ensuring designs comply with statutory and regulatory requirements, Australian Standards and client specifications.
• Producing and checking 3D models, drawings and technical documentation, and maintaining design records and change history.
• Guiding our drafting team and reviewing drawings for accuracy before release.
• Working with clients, suppliers and manufacturers to resolve design and production issues.
• Tracking your tasks against project schedules and flagging risks early.
