Job summary

Georges River Council invites applications for a Marketing Cadet to gain hands-on experience supporting campaigns, content creation, social media management, and brand promotion. You will work with experienced marketers to deliver city-wide campaigns, capture photography and video content, and ensure messages are accurate for residents and stakeholders.

You will update websites, assist with the City Marketing Strategy, collaborate across Council teams, and help engage residents while you study.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in Marketing/Communications/Media/PR degree or related
  • Experience using Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud to develop content
  • Understanding of social media platforms and scheduling tools
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Collaborative, proactive, and able to meet deadlines

Responsibilities

The Role

As a Marketing Cadet, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience while supporting the delivery of marketing initiatives that promote Council services, programs, events and city-wide campaigns. Working alongside experienced marketing professionals, you'll contribute to content creation, social media management, website updates, campaign delivery and brand promotion, helping to engage residents and showcase all that Georges River has to offer.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop practical skills across a broad range of marketing activities while completing your studies and building a strong foundation for a future career in marketing and communications.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Assist with the planning, delivery and evaluation of marketing campaigns that promote Council services, programs, events and community initiatives.
  • Support the implementation of Council's City Marketing Strategy and contribute ideas that strengthen community awareness and engagement.
  • Create engaging content for social media channels, including written posts, photography and short-form video content.
  • Update and maintain content across Council's websites, ensuring information is accurate, accessible and current.
  • Support the consistent application of Council's brand and style guidelines across marketing and communication materials.
  • Work collaboratively with teams across Council, including Libraries, Hurstville Museum & Gallery, Jubilee Stadium and Events, to promote programs and activities.
  • Contribute to a variety of City Futures and corporate projects while helping showcase the work of Council to residents, visitors and key stakeholders.

About You

You are a motivated and creative marketing student looking to gain hands-on experience and build a strong foundation for your future career. You enjoy working collaboratively, are eager to learn, and bring a proactive approach to problem-solving.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Current enrolment in a degree in Marketing, Communications, Media, Public Relations or a related discipline throughout the cadetship.
  • Demonstrated experience using Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud to develop creative content.
  • Demonstrated understanding of social media platforms and scheduling tools, and their role in audience engagement.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage professionally and respectfully with colleagues and the community.
  • A collaborative approach and a commitment to demonstrating integrity, accountability, respect and honesty in the workplace.
  • A willingness to think creatively, embrace new challenges and contribute solutions to a variety of marketing projects.
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • A commitment to diversity, inclusion and fostering a positive and equitable workplace culture.

What We Offer

  • Salary from $58,493.20 to $66,806.04 gross p.a. (full-time equivalent), plus 12% superannuation
  • Temporary part-time position for up to two years, or until completion of studies, whichever occurs first
