Job summary

The University of Western Australia (UWA) in WA seeks a Technical Officer to support coastal and marine research. The role covers instrument maintenance, fieldwork planning, data processing and collaboration with the research team.

This full-time fixed-term appointment (2 years) offers a base salary of AUD 86,540–AUD 95,920 p.a. pro-rata plus 17% superannuation and a range of employee benefits.

Qualifications

• Degree in coastal science, marine science or related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience supporting coastal field research or projects, ideally with marine field instrumentation and small-vessel operations.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reports and presentations.
• Computing skills across spreadsheets and databases; familiarity with MATLAB, Python, R, ArcGIS or similar tools.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, test, organise and maintain oceanographic instruments, marine field equipment, and survey systems.
• Support planning and delivery of marine fieldwork from small vessels, including boating and diving activities, field logistics and risk assessments.
• Process, quality-control, analyse, archive and present field datasets, and contribute to technical reports and training.
