Job summary

EY is seeking a Data Office Manager for Oceania to lead data governance, ownership and lifecycle practices across the region. You will coordinate withGlobal Data Office, Risk, and Technology teams to advance data standards and protection controls while supporting Dataguard readiness and communications.

You’ll influence across time zones, manage regional delivery rhythms, and drive sustainable data practices with a hands-on delivery approach.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering data management, data governance, technology change, risk or compliance initiatives in a large and complex organisation, with practical exposure to data ownership, stewardship, classification, quality, access or lifecycle management.
• Practical understanding of data protection risks and controls, including AI data movement, endpoints, browsers, cloud storage and email, with ability to work with technology and security teams.
• Strong stakeholder, change and communication skills across business, technology, risk and leadership audiences, including the ability to influence teams who do not report to you.
• Sound judgement on when to work an issue locally and when to allocate it into the global program.
• Comfort working across time zones with global program teams and regional technology owners.
• Experience running a regional delivery and engagement rhythm for a program where controls are designed and deployed by other teams.
• Ideally, you’ll also have the skills and attributes below but don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes.
• Experience supporting a global initiative in a region and balancing global consistency with local requirements.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Purview, endpoint management or comparable data protection and device tooling.
• Exposure to Responsible AI, data classification, privacy or regulatory obligations relating to data handling, and to data governance fundamentals such as ownership, stewardship, classification and access.
• Relevant certifications such as CIPP, CISM or CRISC, or a degree in a technology, data, cyber security or risk discipline.
• Exposure to AI-ready data, synthetic data and Data Management, including data ownership, stewardship, classification, quality, metadata, access and lifecycle practices, together with familiarity with relevant data frameworks and tools.

Responsibilities

• Help establish clear data ownership, stewardship, classification, quality, access and lifecycle practices across the Oceania region.
• Support Data Office initiatives, including data management uplift, AI-ready data, synthetic data and common data standards, frameworks and tools.
• Coordinate with Global Data Office, other regions, Service Lines and Risk to align priorities and deliver data objectives.
• Strengthen Data Office delivery by coordinating stakeholders and establishing sustainable BAU practices and reporting.
• Support Dataguard regional delivery by coordinating with Risk, Information Security, Technology, Service Lines and global teams on readiness, communications and ownership.
• Identify emerging data protection risks and opportunities to enhance controls and support related initiatives.

Manager - Oceania Data Office

The opportunity

The Oceania Data Office helps the region manage data as a trusted, well-governed asset. As our Data Office Manager, you will support regional priorities across data ownership, stewardship, classification, quality, access and lifecycle management. You will also help advance AI-ready data, synthetic data and common data standards, frameworks and tools. As part of the role, you will support the regional delivery of Dataguard, a global program that strengthens how EY protects information across emerging and established technology channels.

This is a hands-on Data Office delivery and coordination role. You will work with the Global Data Office, other regions, Service Lines, Risk, Information Security and Technology teams to align priorities and deliver regional data objectives. You will help embed clear accountabilities, standards and sustainable ways of working across Oceania. For Dataguard, you will represent the Oceania CTIO, coordinate regional readiness and communications, identify risks and support control enhancements and related initiatives as they arise. The role reports to the Oceania Data Lead within the Chief Technology and Innovation Office.

This role can be performed from any of our EY offices across Australia. Our roles can potentially be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours. Please speak with us about potential options.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Support the Oceania Data Office to establish and maintain clear data ownership, stewardship, classification, quality, access and lifecycle practices across the region.
• Support Oceania and global Data Office initiatives, including Data Management capability uplift, AI-ready data, Synthetic Data and the adoption of common data standards, frameworks and tools.
• Work with the Global Data Office, other regions, Service Lines and Risk teams to align priorities, share good practice and deliver our data and risk objectives.
• Strengthen Data Office delivery by coordinating stakeholders and helping establish sustainable business-as-usual practices and reporting.
• Support the regional delivery of Dataguard by coordinating with Risk, Information Security, Technology, Service Lines and global teams on readiness, communications, adoption, escalation and ongoing ownership.
• Identify emerging data protection risks and opportunities to enhance controls, supporting control-related initiatives as they arise and providing leadership with a clear view of impacts, readiness and residual exposure.
