Job summary

Netflix Animation Studios Australia Pty Ltd in Sydney is seeking Lighting Artists at all levels to blend artistry with technical lighting for an upcoming animated feature. You will light shots, collaborate with Supervisors and Leads, and contribute to the development of lighting rigs.

Proficiency with Katana/Houdini and Nuke is preferred, along with a strong eye for cinematography and storytelling through light. This role supports a hybrid Sydney-based work model with collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• Solid experience in lighting for animated feature films, VFX feature films or high-end series animation
• Creatively strong and a quick learner, adept at grasping visual requirements, lighting philosophy, and techniques
• Comprehensive knowledge of cinematography and visual artistic elements in animated films
• Experienced with industry-standard lighting tools (node-based like Katana or Houdini)
• Proficient using Nuke
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize under pressure
• Strong verbal and written communication, with collaborative approach to feedback

Responsibilities

• Navigate from shot lighting to final lighting, meeting project deadlines and milestones

• Tackle visual challenges using in-house lighting tools and test new tool developments

Job Summary

Are you passionate about creativity and equipped with the technical skills to light shots and sequences for animated feature films? Netflix Animation Studios is seeking Lighting Artists at all levels who can blend artistic with technical expertise to craft visually stunning work for our next animated feature film.

What You'll Do

• Navigate from shot lighting to final lighting, meeting project deadlines and milestones
• Work closely with Supervisors and Leads to design and create lighting for scenes of varying complexity
• Collaborate closely with Lighting Leads and team members to modify and adapt existing lighting rigs
• Tackle visual challenges using our in-house lighting tools and contribute to testing new tool developments
• Use Nuke to composite separate render layers into a final image that aligns with the vision of the Director, Production Designer, and Visual Effects Supervisor
• Communicate with Lighting Lead and Production about current shot progress and any updates
• Collaborate with grace, humility, inclusion, and open-mindedness

• Experienced with industry-standard lighting tools (preferably node based such as Katana or Houdini)
• Proficient using Nuke
• Exceptional organizational skills, capable of prioritizing tasks efficiently under pressure
• Strong verbal and written communication, with excellent interpersonal skills
• Collaborative mindset with openness to feedback, knowledge sharing and inclusive teamwork

This role is based out of Sydney, Australia. Hybrid Role (Minimum of 3 days a week in the office).
