Description du poste

Forge a specialist legal and consultancy career at the heart of Australia's powerhouse resources industry.

Hetherington is a premier name in tenement management, legal, and environmental services, acting as the trusted partner to Australia's leading resources companies. From our offices in Sydney, Perth, and Brisbane, our national team of experts fosters a professional, progressive, and collaborative culture.

We are looking for an ambitious Consultant and/or Solicitor to join us and build a rewarding, long-term career in this dynamic sector. While we welcome applications from admitted solicitors, we will also consider candidates seeking a consultant-focused career path within our specialist tenement management and resources advisory practice.

This is an excellent opportunity for a law graduate, consultant or solicitor seeking to develop specialist expertise in tenement management and resources law while working with a diverse client base across every Australian jurisdiction. Unlike a traditional law firm role, this position offers the opportunity to become deeply involved in the commercial and operational aspects of the resources industry while maintaining a strong legal and advisory focus.

As a Consultant/Solicitor, you won't just be processing paperwork; you'll be a pivotal player in the success of our clients' projects. You will become a trusted advisor, mastering the complex interplay of law, commerce, and environment that defines the resources sector. Your responsibilities will be diverse and challenging:

  • Become a Strategic Advisor: Directly manage client tenement portfolios, acting as their primary contact to ensure every legal and regulatory obligation is met with precision.
  • Master Complex Legislation: Dive deep into mining and exploration law, providing clear, commercially astute advice that guides major operational decisions.
  • Drive High-Value Transactions: Advise on the critical acquisition, disposal, and amalgamation of mining assets, shaping the landscape of the industry.
  • Navigate the Regulatory Maze: Take ownership of the compliance lifecycle, from preparing applications, renewals, and objections to managing approvals and ensuring adherence to strict environmental and planning laws.
  • Build a Unique Skillset: Gain unparalleled experience across a wide spectrum of legal disciplines, including mining law, environmental and planning law, Native Title, property law, contract law, and land management.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Qualified & Ambitious: You hold a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor, as well as any other relevant degree. Admission as a solicitor and a current practising certificate are advantageous but not essential. We welcome applications from candidates who intend to obtain admission and/or a practising certificate while employed at Hetherington.
  • A Master of Priorities: You possess exceptional project management and prioritisation skills, capable of managing multiple complex files with autonomy and confidence.
  • A Gifted Communicator: Your written and verbal communication skills are outstanding, allowing you to build rapport and convey complex legal advice clearly to everyone from boutique explorers to top-tier public companies.
  • Commercially Astute: You have a keen interest in the commercial drivers of the resources industry and a natural curiosity for areas like property, contract, and environmental law.
  • A Collaborative Spirit: You thrive in a team environment, bringing a positive, can-do attitude and a professional commitment to continuous learning and development.
Why Join Hetherington?
  • Work directly with leading Australian resources companies.
  • Develop specialist expertise in mining and exploration law.
  • Gain exposure to projects and legislation across every Australian jurisdiction.
  • Build a unique skillset spanning tenement management, resources law, Native Title, environmental and planning law, property law, and commercial matters.
  • Join a collaborative national team with offices in Sydney, Perth, and Brisbane.
  • Enjoy genuine long-term career progression opportunities in a highly specialised sector.
  • Work in a role that combines legal, commercial, and strategic advisory responsibilities.
  • Flexible role structure for Consultant and Solicitor candidates.
  • Salary negotiated based on experience, qualifications, and expertise.
Ready to Build Your Future?

Whether you are an admitted solicitor, a recent graduate seeking a specialist pathway, or an experienced consultant looking to further develop your expertise in the resources sector, we would love to hear from you.

We are seeking either a Consultant/Solicitor or a Consultant, depending on the experience and qualifications of the successful applicant. Salary is open to negotiation and will be commensurate with experience, skills, and professional background.

Salary negotiated based on experience, qualifications, and expertise.
