J&T Express Australia is looking for an organised, detail-focused Legal Assistant to work alongside our Senior Legal Counsel across legal, governance and compliance matters. Day to day, you will help prepare and manage contracts, legal documents and corporate records, keep compliance obligations on track, and work with teams across the business and our external lawyers so that legal matters are properly documented and kept moving.
Manage contracts across their lifecycle, including contract administration, document control, tracking key dates and renewals, and keeping the precedent and template library current.
Research legal and regulatory questions and turn the findings into clear summaries, briefings and guidance notes on legislative, regulatory and industry developments for the Senior Legal Counsel.
Keep corporate and legal records, registers and files accurate, current and well organised.
Work with the Senior Legal Counsel to track regulatory and compliance obligations and give the business practical guidance on commercial, corporate, employment, privacy, employment, work health and safety and other regulatory issues.
Support the Senior Legal Counsel with the development, implementation, and maintenance of the legal and compliance frameworks, including the policies, procedures and governance processes used across the business.
Draft, review, format and negotiate a range of legal documents under the supervision of the Senior Legal Counsel, including customer and supplier contracts, internal compliance policies, contract templates and legal correspondence.
Coordinate correspondence and document exchange with external solicitors, government agencies and regulators, and other external stakeholders as directed.
Work with HR, Finance, Procurement, Operations and other teams to gather the information and documents needed for contracts, legal matters and compliance activities.
Provide general support to the legal function, including scheduling meetings, maintaining filing systems, preparing reports and other duties reasonably required by the Senior Legal Counsel.
A degree or diploma in Law, Legal Studies, Business, Commerce or a related discipline is preferred.
Up to three years' post-graduate experience; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
Previous experience as a Legal Assistant, Legal Administrator, Paralegal or similar role is desirable.
Exposure to, or a genuine interest in, in-house practice, road transport and logistics, data protection or corporate governance will be highly regarded.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
A proactive, adaptable approach and comfort working in a fast-moving environment.
The ability to analyse legal issues, research them thoroughly and explain your findings in plain terms.
A commercial mindset and a practical approach to solving problems.
The ability to manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document management systems.
Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external legal advisers.
