Job summary

University of Canberra invites applications for a Lecturer in Social Work (Education Focused) to join the Faculty of Health. This continuing, full-time role combines high-quality teaching with clinical supervision and curriculum innovation to support student success and professional education developments.

The appointee will deliver social work teaching, coordinate units, and lead a student-led clinic, aligning curriculum with accreditation and contemporary practice and building partnerships

Qualifications

• Master of Social Work (Qualifying) or equivalent required.
• PhD in Social Work or related discipline advantageous.
• At least five years' professional social work experience.
• Membership (or eligibility) with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
• Experience supervising students undertaking field education placements.
• Previous teaching experience in higher education, social work, or human services sector.
• Evidence of teaching quality, educational innovation, or professional training delivery.
• Experience collaborating with stakeholders across health, community or human services sectors with existing networks in ACT and region.
• Ability to contribute to online, blended and face-to-face learning environments.

Responsibilities

Due to rapid growth, our Faculty of Health is seeking an enthusiastic and student-centred Lecturer in Social Work (Education Focused) to join our growing Discipline of Social Work. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the discipline and help shape the future of social work education through cutting‑edge teaching, clinical supervision, and curriculum innovation.

This dynamic and expanding program delivers high-quality teaching helping establish innovative social work services. This role is central to the course delivery and supporting student success through their degree in combining academic teaching with clinical education and supervision.

Key responsibilities:

In this role, you will:

• Deliver engaging teaching across the social work curriculum.
• Coordinate units and contribute to course leadership activities.
• Lead the development and implementation of a student‑led Social Work Clinic.
• Collaborate to develop curriculum aligned with accreditation standards and contemporary social work practice.
• Build and maintain strong partnerships with community, health, and human service organisations.
• Contribute to scholarship and research in teaching and learning, particularly in social work education.

About you:

We are looking for an experienced social work professional who is passionate about education and committed to developing future practitioners. To be successful, you will have:

• A Master of Social Work (Qualifying) or equivalent qualification.
• A PhD in Social Work or a related discipline, or a willingness to undertake doctoral studies would be advantageous
• At least five years' professional social work experience.
• Membership (or eligibility) with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
• Demonstrated experience supervising students undertaking field education placements.
• Previous teaching experience in higher education, social work, or the human services sector.
• Evidence of teaching quality, educational innovation, or professional training delivery.
• Experience working collaboratively with stakeholders across health, community, or human services sectors with existing networks in the Act and region
• The ability to contribute to online, blended, and face‑to‑face learning environments.
