Job summary

Veolia Australia & New Zealand is hiring for a Leading Hand Operator at our Resource Recovery facility in Welshpool, WA. The role focuses on coordinating daily site operations, ensuring safety standards, and supporting a high-performing team to meet production targets.

You will act as liaison between staff and the Site Supervisor, drive continuous improvement, and help maintain operational efficiency while upholding our Always Safe culture.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills with team and management.
• Must hold HRWL Forklift license and Full Driver's License.
• Front End Loader ticket and Material Handler certification preferred.
• Working at Heights ticket desirable.
• Knowledge of WHA/EPA legislation and regulations.
• Experience in waste industry, planning or logistics.

Responsibilities

• Act as the key point of contact between site employees and the Site Supervisor, ensuring clear communication and escalating matters as needed.
• Coordinate daily tasks and team allocations in line with rosters and operational requirements.
• Supervise team performance, monitor breaks and PPE compliance, and contribute to performance reviews and training.
• Assist with operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of mobile and fixed plant including loaders, balers, excavators, forklifts and other site equipment.
• Support forecasting, maintenance, transport and logistics activities including trailer movements and contractor liaison.
• Promote safety and environmental culture with compliance to OHS&E, SOPs, PPE, and incident reporting.
• Maintain strong relationships supporting inductions and site administration duties.

What you’ll be responsible for

• Act as the key point of contact between site employees and the Site Supervisor, ensuring clear communication and promptly escalating matters where necessary as well as providing constructive feedback to drive continuous improvement
• Coordinate daily tasks and team allocations in line with rosters and operational requirements, supporting the efficient running of the facility.
• Supervise team performance, encourage productivity, monitor breaks and PPE compliance, and provide input into performance reviews, training and staff development.
• Assist with the operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of mobile and fixed plant including loaders, balers, excavators, forklifts and other site equipment.
• Support forecasting, maintenance, transport and logistics activities including monitoring trailer movements, managing vehicle service schedules and liaising with contractors to meet daily volumes.
• Promote a strong safety and environmental culture by ensuring compliance with OHS&E requirements, safe operating procedures, PPE standards and incident reporting.
• Maintaining strong working relationships supporting inductions and other site administration duties

What you’ll need to be successful

• Excellent communication skills

• Material Handler certification

• Working at Heights ticket (desirable)
• Working knowledge of WHA,EPA Legislation and regulations
• Knowledge of spreadsheets google/microsoft
• Waste industry, planning and/or logistics experience
