Macquarie University Health is seeking a Senior MRI Radiographer to lead a small team and oversee daily MRI operations across three scanners (GE Discovery MR750 3.0T, Siemens Magnetom Vida 3.0T, Siemens Magnetom Sola 1.5T). The role combines clinical scanning with leadership, workflow coordination and service optimisation within an academically integrated health precinct.

You will supervise 4–5 radiographers, ensure safe, timely and compassionate care, and contribute to research and teaching

Qualifications

  • Post-graduate qualification (or degree) in Magnetic Resonance Technology.
  • Minimum five years’ FTE experience as an MRI Radiographer.
  • Current AHPRA registration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead MRI team and oversee day-to-day workflow.
  • Provide high-quality diagnostic MRI imaging across GE and Siemens platforms.
  • Manage scheduling, prioritisation and throughput for safe, patient-centred service.
  • Develop and mentor 4–5 radiographers, including roster input and coaching.
  • Participate in MRI on-call roster and uphold MRI safety standards.

The Role

Reporting within the Medical Imaging team, the Lead MRI Radiographer is responsible for the safe, efficient and high-quality delivery of MRI services, and for the day-to-day leadership of a team of 5 medical imaging radiographers.

The role combines hands-on scanning with oversight of daily workflow and the development of the MRI radiography team, ensuring patients receive consistent, timely and compassionate care while supporting the research and teaching activity that defines Macquarie University Health.

The role supports imaging services across three operating MRI scanners , including:

  • GE Discovery MR750 3.0T

  • Siemens Magnetom Vida 3.0T

  • Siemens Magnetom Sola 1.5T

Key Accountabilities

(Including but not limited to)

  • Provide high-quality diagnostic MRI imaging services across GE and Siemens MRI platforms.

  • Deliver MRI services for a wide range of patient presentations, including outpatient, inpatient and research imaging.

  • Oversee daily workflow and operational coordination of the MRI department, including scheduling, prioritisation and throughput, to ensure safe, efficient and patient-centred service delivery.

  • Lead, supervise and develop a team of 4-5 medical imaging radiographers , providing formal and informal training, coaching, rostering input and professional support (including support for junior, graduate and developing staff).

  • Organise and actively participate in the MRI on-call roster as required.

  • Maintain MRI safety standards, quality assurance and protocol integrity, including for research studies, and contribute to continuous improvement and service optimisation.

About You

You are an experienced MRI Radiographer with strong clinical expertise and demonstrated capability leading a small team, who thrives in a collaborative, innovative and academically integrated healthcare environment.

Essential (Pre-requisites)
  • Post-graduate qualification (or degree) in Magnetic Resonance Technology.

  • Minimum five years’ FTE experience as an MRI Radiographer.

  • Current AHPRA registration.

Desirable
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supervising a small team of radiographers (approximately 5 staff), including mentorship, training, rostering and day-to-day workflow management - ideally gained in a private practice or private hospital imaging setting.

  • Demonstrated proficiency across Siemens and/or GE platforms.

  • Experience with, or sound knowledge of, MRI requirements for research studies, including Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and protocol management.

General Skills and Attributes
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise and manage workload with limited supervision.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of and experience with electronic radiology practice management systems (such as COMRAD and Intelerad ).

  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and patient management systems.

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development, high-quality customer service, and the Mission, Vision and Values of Macquarie University Health.
