Job summary

BHP is seeking an experienced Underground Mine Surveyor to lead and grow the survey team at Prominent Hill. You will drive best practice in field surveys, develop robust controls, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for mine surveying activities.

You will oversee mine plan updates, contribute to incident investigations, and support end-of-month reporting processes while promoting a strong safety culture on site.

Qualifications

• Underground mine surveying experience is required.
• Strong leadership and mentoring ability for a surveying team.
• Excellent communication with stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
• Commitment to mine safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Review, develop and maintain safe and effective working practices and standards for the survey department
• Ensure accurate and timely completion of survey requirements within the underground mine.
• Maintain survey control infrastructure and conduct necessary check traverses.
• Manage adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements related to mine surveying activities.
• Update and maintain mine plans for both internal and external regulatory use.
• Undertake incident investigations as required and implement actions leading to continuous improvement of the site’s safety performance
• Manage survey inputs into the End Of Month reporting process

About The Role

Prominent Hill is a copper-gold mine, a long-life asset, that is part of the BHP South Australia copper province. BHP is a global company with operations in Australia, North and South America across 5 different commodities.

This is where you will play a pivotal role – in the improvement and execution of Prominent Hill’s mine development and production.

In This Role You Will

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of surveyors

About You

• Tertiary qualification in Surveying
• SA Drivers Licence (or equivalent)
• Significant experience in underground mine surveying, demonstrating a strong understanding of underground mining methods and survey systems.
• A team-oriented mindset with the ability to integrate well into a collaborative team.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively coordinate survey activities and communicate with stakeholders.
• Passion for mine safety and the ability to be a safety leader.
• Experience with Deswik software (including MDM) and end-of-month processes and systems.
