Job summary

ScrumCraft is seeking a Lead Microservices and AI Technical Architect to support the Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR). Based in Canberra, ACT with hybrid/flexible remote options, the role combines cloud-native architecture, microservices and AI across the software delivery lifecycle.

You will guide AI adoption, champion DevSecOps, CI/CD, observability and testing, and lead governance across multidisciplinary teams while engaging senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and architectural authority for cloud-native, microservices and AI-enabled platforms
• Guide adoption of AI across the software delivery lifecycle, including AI-enabled SDLC, DevSecOps, CI/CD, observability and automated testing
• Drive technology modernisation, microservices uplift, containerisation and enterprise system integration
• Lead engineering governance, capability uplift and knowledge transfer across multidisciplinary teams
• Influence system builds, engineering decisions and platform evolution aligned with enterprise architecture and security objectives
• Extensive experience designing and governing cloud-native, microservices and event-driven architectures in complex enterprise environments
• Demonstrated expertise in AI engineering, semantic search, ML solutions and responsible AI practices
• Strong software and platform engineering capability (DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, security-by-design)
• Proven leadership in enterprise technology modernisation, platform reliability, scalability and engineering maturity uplift
• Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with experience leading multidisciplinary teams and senior executives
• Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, AKS, EKS or GKE
• Experience in cloud platform modernisation, SRE, observability tooling and automation
• Experience leading delivery in Agile environments and uplifting geographically dispersed teams

Location: Canberra, ACT (Hybrid with flexible/remote options)

Contract: 12 months + 12-month extension (2 x extensions)

Hours: Up to 40 hours/week

Clearance: Must be able to obtain Baseline

About the Program

DISR is establishing its first enterprise Microservices and Event-Driven Architecture foundations and embedding AI-enabled engineering practices across the delivery lifecycle. This role is central to shaping modern engineering standards, platform evolution and organisational capability uplift.
