Job summary

Sedgman Onyx, part of the Sedgman group, is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer in Australia’s Western Australia region to advance engineering excellence across a broad project portfolio. You will lead technically robust mechanical outcomes, ensure safety and quality, and mentor a team of engineers and drafters.

The role focuses on piping design within mining/mineral processing environments, with strong emphasis on project stewardship and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• 15+ years in design, consultancy, or operational engineering.
• Strong mining and mineral processing experience, with exposure to material handling projects.
• Piping design and layout in mining/mineral processing environments.
• Proven leadership of technical and project teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of technically robust mechanical engineering outcomes across a diverse portfolio of projects.
• Provide technical direction to support safe, practical and efficient project delivery.
• Assert accountability for mechanical engineering quality, risk management, standards and safety.
• Plan and coordinate engineering workloads to enable effective project delivery.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines for integrated design and project execution.
• Review and guide engineers and drafters to ensure quality and alignment with requirements.
• Resolve complex technical challenges and provide practical solutions for client outcomes.
• Update and maintain standard drawings and Sedgman Onyx specifications.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead the delivery of technically robust mechanical engineering outcomes across a diverse portfolio of projects.
• Provide technical direction and strategic input to support safe, practical and efficient project delivery.
• Take accountability for mechanical engineering quality, technical integrity, risk management, standards and safety.
• Plan and coordinate engineering workloads, ensuring project teams are set up to deliver effectively.
• Work closely with other engineering disciplines to support integrated design and seamless project execution.
• Review and guide the work of engineers and drafting team members to ensure quality, accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
• Resolve complex technical challenges and provide clear, practical solutions that support project and client outcomes.
• Review, update and maintain standard drawings and Sedgman Onyx engineering specifications in line with industry best practice.
• Coach, mentor and support engineers to build technical capability and strengthen team performance.
• Build trusted relationships across project teams, clients and stakeholders while demonstrating Sedgman Onyx’s Values in Action.

What You’ll Bring

• A Bachelor of Engineering qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
• 15+ years’ experience in a design, consultancy or operational engineering environment.
• Strong experience across the mining and mineral processing sector, with demonstrated exposure to material handling projects.
• Sound technical capability in piping design and layout within mining and mineral processing environments.
• Proven experience leading technical and project teams, with the ability to guide, support and influence engineering outcomes.
• A practical understanding of project management principles, controls and delivery requirements.
• Demonstrated success in a senior or similar engineering leadership role.
• The ability to identify and resolve technical issues, apply sound judgement and escape where required.
