Job summary

Sedgman is seeking a Lead Materials Handling Engineer to join our Perth team. You will lead an experienced team designing and delivering materials handling systems across domestic and international projects, guiding them from concept through to operations.

You will manage design methods, specifications and equipment requirements while supporting procurement and commissioning activities. Strong leadership and broad technical experience are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in project design, commissioning and onsite operation environments.
  • Experience with materials handling equipment such as conveyors, crushing, screening material storage, milling etc.
  • Site-based practical experience with commissioning, operations and problem solving issues will be highly regarded.
  • Materials handling experience with multiple commodity types highly regarded.
  • Experience leading and mentoring junior Engineers and enjoy these responsibilities.
  • Communication and leadership skills with ability to provide advanced technical solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead an experienced materials handling team to provide innovative designs for domestic and international projects.
  • Oversee projects through lifecycle from concept to operation, including feasibility studies, surveys, design layouts and cost estimates.
  • Define design methods, specifications and performance for new projects.
  • Prepare equipment specifications and support procurement activities during project execution.
  • Manage mechanical discipline budget and schedule across project maturity stages.
  • Carry out site inspections and liaise with suppliers, clients, and commissioning engineers; provide engineering support to installation teams.

About the role:
  • Lead an experienced and established materials handling team to leverage your skills to provide innovative designs
  • Work across a continuous succession of small and large, domestic and international projects as they progress through the project lifecycle from early concept development, detailed design, construction and operations
  • Defining and recommending design methods, specifications and performance of functional requirements for new projects
  • Undertaking or supervising the preparation of feasibility studies, surveys and reports, design layouts, bill of quantities and cost estimates. Generating equipment specifications and support the equipment evaluation and procurement activities during project execution.
  • Managing mechanical discipline budget and schedule during the execution of projects in all phases of maturity.
  • Carrying-out site inspections and liaising with suppliers, clients, consultants or commissioning engineers. Engineering support to installation, construction and commissioning teams with the occasional deployment as a commissioning resource.
  • Liaising with internal and external clients, other discipline professionals, and stakeholders within the industry to ensure the timely, accurate and cost effective delivery of projects
What are we looking for?
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • At least 10 years’ experience, preferably in the project design, commissioning and onsite operation environments
  • Experience with materials handling equipment such as conveyors, crushing, screening material storage, milling etc.
  • Site-based practical experience with commissioning, operations and problem solving issues will be highly regarded
  • Materials handling experience with multiple commodity types highly regarded
  • You will have experience leading and mentoring junior Engineers and enjoy these responsibilities
  • Communication and leadership skills combined with the ability to provide advanced technical solutions and problem solve are essential to the role
  • CPEng or Chartered Status will be highly regarded, however not essential
