Job summary

United Workers Union is seeking a Lead Industrial Officer to steer the national industrial function, delivering high-quality advice and representation to members. You will drive strategic leadership, champion workers’ rights, and advance the Union’s objectives.

You will supervise a team, manage workload, mentor staff, and engage with employers, tribunals and the Fair Work Commission to enforce entitlements while upholding equity and inclusion across sectors.

Qualifications

• Significant experience improving, maintaining and enforcing members' rights and entitlements under legislation and industrial instruments.
• Extensive knowledge of the Australian industrial relations environment and ability to share that knowledge.
• Experience advocating through Fair Work Commission, courts and tribunals.
• Ability to manage and develop a team and mentor junior staff.
• Strong written and verbal advocacy and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of Industrial Officers to resolve individual and collective issues and grow union membership.
• Ensure the team's work retains existing members, attracts new members and boosts participation.
• Manage a caseload providing industrial advice to members and advocate before employers and tribunals.
• Collaborate with the National Coordinator and Deputy Director to allocate workload and supervise staff.
• Train, mentor and develop industrial knowledge and standards within the team.
• Perform duties to maintain high service quality for Union members.
