Job summary

Macquarie Group is seeking a Lead Engineer to shape the architecture of our Open Payments Platform in Melbourne. You will steer critical design decisions, mentor engineers, and drive reliability and scalability in a real-time payments environment.

In this role you will contribute to the architectural vision, collaborate with a talented team, and ensure secure, high-performance payment orchestration across multiple channels.

Qualifications

• Proven track record designing and delivering large-scale, high-performance payment systems.
• Hands-on in Java/Spring Boot with cloud technologies (GCP) and NoSQL databases.
• Strong knowledge of microservices, event-driven design, and secure payment workflows.
• Experience leading architecture decisions and delivering reliable, scalable platforms.
• Excellent communication and ability to mentor engineers and collaborate cross-functionally.

Responsibilities

• Lead architectural decisions for the Open Payments Platform integration.
• Collaborate with Principal Engineer to drive reliability and operational excellence.
• Guide engineers in design and implementation of scalable payment orchestration.
• Ensure platform security and performance across multiple channels.
• Mentor and develop the team to raise engineering mastery.
