GE Vernova is seeking a Lead Electrical Systems Engineer to join our global engineering organisation, supporting power conversion, automation, and control solutions for critical infrastructure.

You will provide technical leadership on complex projects, ensuring designs meet safety, regulatory, budget, and schedule requirements, while advancing engineering processes across disciplines and geographies.

Qualifications

  • 7–10 years’ experience in systems or electrical engineering within rail, power, utilities, or energy sectors.
  • Strong technical knowledge of power conversion and electrical systems across design, manufacturing, field engineering, or equipment lifecycle support.
  • Ability to read, write, and review technical specifications and engineering documentation.
  • Experience with safety in design, HAZOP, RAM, and human factors would be advantageous.
  • Experience interpreting power system studies and design outputs (SLDs, protection coordination, load flow, fault studies, harmonics, EMC, cable sizing) optional.

Responsibilities

  • Lead systems and project engineering activities across power conversion and electrical systems projects.
  • Develop and review designs, specifications, and documentation for electrical systems.
  • Ensure engineering outputs comply with health, safety, regulatory, and industry standards.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors as the technical focal point.
  • Review electrical schematics and documentation for compliance and functionality.
  • Provide technical input to project planning, delivery, and customer solutions.
  • Support tendering and sales activities by providing engineering expertise.
  • Participate in design reviews, engineering forums, and improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering tools, processes, and systems.

Job Description

In this role, you will provide technical leadership on complex projects within the Power Conversion and Storage business, working closely with project teams, customers, and global engineering partners. You will play a key role in ensuring designs meet customer, safety, regulatory, budget, and schedule requirements—while also helping improve engineering processes and systems.

This role is well suited to someone with experience in rail, power, utilities, or energy storage, who enjoys solving complex problems and collaborating across disciplines and geographies.

Responsibilities
  • Lead systems and project engineering activities across power conversion and electrical systems projects
  • Develop and review designs, specifications, and documentation for electrical systems, including:
    • Generators, transformers, switchboards, converters, motors, energy storage, and cabling
  • Ensure engineering outputs comply with health, safety, regulatory, and industry standards
  • Act as the technical focal point, coordinating with internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Review electrical schematics and technical documentation for compliance and functionality
  • Provide technical input to project planning, delivery, and customer solutions
  • Support tendering and sales activities by providing engineering expertise
  • Participate in design reviews, engineering forums, and organisational improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering tools, processes, and systems
What You Bring
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Instrumentation Engineering from a local or internationally recognised university. Those with a diploma coupled with relevant electrical and industry experience will be considered.
  • 7–10 years’ experience in systems or electrical engineering within rail, power, utilities, or energy sectors
  • Strong technical knowledge of power conversion and electrical systems across design, manufacturing, field engineering, or equipment lifecycle support
  • Ability to read, write, and review technical specifications and engineering documentation
  • Experience with systems engineering and assurance activities such as Safety in Design, HAZOP, FMECA, RAM, and Human Factors would be advantageous, but not necessary.
  • Experience interpreting power system studies and design outputs, including SLDs, protection coordination, load flow, fault studies, harmonics, EMC, and cable sizing would be advantageous, but not necessary.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work with diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Customer‑focused mindset with commercial awareness
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required
