Job summary

Klohn Crippen Berger seeks a Lead Electrical Engineer in Brisbane to lead electrical design across hydro, utility, mining, and infrastructure projects and grow the local team.

You will establish client relationships, review proposals, and provide technical leadership while ensuring schedule and budget objectives are met. Collaboration with offices across Australia and overseas is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • RPEQ or CPEng registration or eligibility preferred.
  • 10 years progressive experience in electrical design for hydro, utility, mining, or transport.
  • Experience in power generation, distribution, and protection coordination.
  • Knowledge of safety codes and regulatory design.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Valid Queensland driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical design of hydro, utility, mining projects.
  • Develop scopes of work, methodologies and cost estimates.
  • Build client relationships in Queensland and across Australia.
  • Mentor engineers and collaborate with subconsultants and offices.
  • Ensure deliverables meet budget and schedule.
  • Travel to sites for planning and construction.

The Opportunity:

We're seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Lead Electrical Engineer to join our Power & Transportation team based in Brisbane. In this pivotal role, you’ll guide business development, support electrical design scopes across hydropower, utility, mining, and infrastructure projects, and help grow a dynamic local team. What you will do:
  • Establish and foster relationships with key clients in Queensland and the rest of Australia.
  • Review client requests for proposals and develop scopes of work, design methodologies, and cost estimates
  • Lead the electrical design of complex and unique hydro utility, transportation, and mining projects
  • Ensure objectives for project deliverables, budget, and schedule are met, and client expectations are fulfilled
  • Collaborate with KCB’s offices and the management team regarding resources, as well as work closely with local subconsultants and subcontractors
  • Ensure work is compliant with Klohn Crippen Berger’s Integrated Management System
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to electrical engineers and designers.
  • Travel to site for planning and construction activities.
What you bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • RPEQ & CPEng registration or eligibility preferred.
  • Ideally 10 years progressive experience in electrical engineering design for hydro utility, transportation, and/or mining projects.
  • Proven design and management experience in a variety of projects related to:
    • power generation, distribution, and transmission.
    • low/medium voltage switchgear and transformers.
    • motors and motor control centres.
    • protection coordination.
    • control panels and instrumentation.
    • cable systems and grounding.
  • Knowledge of regulatory design and safety codes.
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, and reliable.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Queensland drivers licence.

  • Proven ability to lead and contribute to a variety of project scopes across these sectors.

  • Passion for business development, strategic business planning, particularly in developing and growing a team.
  • Strong initiative, innovation and commitment to technical excellence as well as your enthusiasm and drive toward long‑term success.
  • Ability and willingness to engage remotely with teams in offices around Australia and overseas and to work autonomously.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills including your experience in writing proposals, technical reports and general project correspondence.
  • Exceptional team spirit, interpersonal skills and your ability to build long‑term, successful relationships with our clients and our project teams.
