Job summary

Council Jobs, on behalf of Mackay Regional Council, is seeking a Principal Development Planner to lead within the Development Planning and Engineering Program in Mackay CBD. You will manage complex statutory planning matters, provide trusted technical advice, mentor staff and help shape development outcomes across one of Queensland’s most liveable coastal regions.

Qualifications

Tertiary qualification in Urban & Regional Planning (Degree preferred; Associate Degree accepted).
Current QLD C-Class Driver Licence.
Extensive statutory and strategic planning experience.
Leadership experience.
Strong relationship and stakeholder engagement skills.
High-level communication, report writing and negotiation abilities.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and corporate systems.

Responsibilities

Provide senior leadership, coaching and technical guidance to a team of planning professionals.
Lead service improvements for timely, transparent development assessment outcomes.
Ensure projects and assessments are completed within required timeframes and in line with legislation and council priorities.
Provide clear written and verbal advice to applicants, consultants, internal teams and stakeholders.
Review assessments for consistency and quality.
Provide input into strategic planning and policy development to support future growth.
Build productive industry relationships and negotiate well-reasoned planning outcomes.
