Job summary

The Talent Initiative is seeking a Senior Data Modeller for a 12‑month contract commencing in 2027, with hybrid work options in Sydney or Melbourne and Australian citizens only.

You will transform business requirements into scalable, governed data models across enterprise environments, collaborating with architects, engineers and delivery teams to deliver fit-for-purpose data structures and documentation.

Qualifications

• Strong enterprise data modelling experience in complex environments.
• Hands-on experience with Erwin Data Modeller.
• Experience with logical/physical, dimensional modelling and Data Vault.
• Exposure to cloud data platforms (Azure/AWS, Databricks, Spark, CI/CD).
• Strong stakeholder skills and commercial awareness to balance perfection with fit-for-purpose.

Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual, logical and physical data models across operations, integration platforms, data warehouses/lakes, analytics and reporting.
• Translate business requirements and transformation rules into clear data structures and supporting documentation.
• Apply data modelling standards, naming conventions, governance requirements and reusable patterns.
• Work across relational, dimensional, Data Vault and NoSQL modelling approaches, depending on the problem being solved.
• Review models produced by internal teams and external suppliers, keeping quality and consistency high.
• Help improve the broader enterprise data capability, not just deliver the next project artefact.
• Explain complex data concepts in a way that makes sense to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

We’re looking for a Senior Data Modeller who can take business requirements, cut through the noise, and turn them into clean, usable data models that delivery teams can actually build from.

This is not a role for someone who just produces diagrams and disappears. You’ll work closely with business stakeholders, architects, engineers and delivery teams to shape data structures that are scalable, governed and fit for purpose across a complex enterprise environment.

What you’ll be doing

What you’ll bring

• Strong enterprise data modelling experience in complex environments
• Excellent hands-on experience with Erwin Data Modeller
• Practical experience with logical and physical modelling, dimensional modelling and Data Vault
• Exposure to cloud data platforms and modern engineering environments, ideally Azure/AWS, Databricks, Spark and CI/CD
• Strong stakeholder skills and enough commercial awareness to understand the difference between “perfect” and “fit for purpose”
