Zone IT Solutions Pty Ltd seeks an experienced Lead Data Engineer to drive data engineering strategy, mentor engineers, and deliver scalable data platforms. You will own end-to-end data ingestion, transformation, and data product development across cloud environments.

The role requires 7+ years in data engineering, strong SQL and Python, and hands-on experience with ETL/ELT, data lakes, data warehousing, and data governance. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential.

Competenze

• Bachelor’s or higher in CS/Engineering/IT.
• 7+ years hands-on Data Engineering experience.
• Advanced SQL and Python skills.
• Experience with ETL/ELT, Data Lakes, Data Warehousing, Dimensional Modelling, Star Schema, CDC and orchestration.
• Understanding of PII protection and data governance.
• Experience with AWS, GCP or Azure.

We are looking for an experienced Lead Data Engineer with strong hands-on expertise in data engineering, cloud platforms, SQL and Python. The ideal candidate will lead data engineering strategy, mentor engineers and drive the design and delivery of scalable, high-performing data platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as a technical leader, mentoring and inspiring engineers across the business.
• Lead data engineering strategy and implementation in partnership with the Head of Data Engineering.
• Design and implement high-performing data engineering platforms.
• Lead hands-on data ingestion and transformation pipelines, reusable data products and single source of truth solutions.
• Contribute to data product roadmaps and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Establish data engineering best practices and team-wide ways of working.
• Collaborate with engineering, IT, infrastructure and business teams to deliver data solutions.
• Support BAU data platforms, ensuring security, availability, reliability and maintainability.

Key Skills & Experience:

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, Mathematics or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of hands-on Data Engineering experience.
• Advanced SQL and Python skills.
• Strong experience with ETL/ELT, Data Lakes, Data Warehousing, Dimensional Modelling, Star Schema, CDC and orchestration.
• Understanding of PII protection and data governance.
• Experience with AWS, GCP or Azure.
• Good to have: dbt, Snowflake, Databricks, Airflow, Fivetran or Airbyte.
• Good to have: DevOps, MLOps, CI/CD, Git, Java and Terraform.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a solutions-oriented mindset.
