Job summary

JLegal Australia in Sydney is seeking an experienced litigation Senior Associate to join a well-established disputes practice, handling a broad mix of commercial and civil matters from advisory work to court proceedings.

You will own matters, develop direct client relationships, and collaborate with senior lawyers while gaining autonomy with support. The role offers exposure to NSW and Federal issues and a path to greater responsibility as you build your expertise.

Qualifications

• Experience in commercial, civil or general litigation.

Responsibilities

• Managing commercial and civil litigation matters from initial instruction through to resolution.
• Advising clients on dispute strategy, risk and potential commercial outcomes.
• Preparing pleadings, affidavits, evidence, submissions and other court documents.
• Conducting legal research and providing clear, commercially focused advice.
• Appearing in or assisting with matters across NSW and Federal jurisdictions.
• Managing procedural requirements, court timetables and key matter deadlines.
• Participating in mediations, settlement conferences and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.
• Briefing and working closely with barristers, experts and other external stakeholders.
• Advising on disputes involving commercial arrangements, financial distress, property, construction and other business-related issues.
• Managing client relationships and providing regular strategic and practical advice throughout the life of a matter.
• Working alongside senior practitioners on larger or more complex disputes.

Job description

An opportunity is available for an experienced litigation Senior Associate to join a well-established Sydney disputes practice working across a broad mix of commercial and civil matters.

This is a hands-on role offering exposure to matters from initial advice and dispute strategy through to negotiated resolution and court proceedings. You will work closely with experienced senior lawyers while having the opportunity to take ownership of files, develop direct client relationships and build your capability across a varied disputes practice.

The position offers a good balance of autonomy and support, with genuine scope to take on greater responsibility as your experience develops.

The Role

Your work may include:

About You

You will be an admitted lawyer (2 - 6 PQE) with solid litigation experience and the confidence to take an active role in managing matters.

Ideally, you will bring:

• Experience in commercial, civil or general litigation.
• A sound understanding of court processes and litigation procedure.
• Experience drafting court documents, correspondence and legal advice.
• Strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to assess legal issues within the broader commercial context.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Confidence dealing directly with clients, counsel and other stakeholders.
• Strong organisation and matter-management skills.
• The ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively within a collaborative team.

Experience across areas such as commercial disputes, insolvency, construction, insurance or property-related litigation would be advantageous, although lawyers from broader disputes backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
