Job summary

Murdoch University in Australia is seeking a Large Animal Veterinary Technician lead to support clinical services and teaching across Western Australia. The role is farm-based, ambulatory, with some hospital case management and stock/equipment oversight.

The Fixed Term (12 Month) role is available Part time or Full Time (up to 37.5 hours weekly) with a salary of $82,210–$88,445 pro rata plus 17% employer superannuation and potential salary sacrifice options.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Certificate IV in Veterinary nursing OR Laboratory technician with relevant experience; AND/OR equivalent combination of education.
  • Ability to work independently with travel to remote farms and rural locations and a willingness to travel regionally occasionally.
  • Experience working with livestock in an agricultural or veterinary setting.
  • Confident skills related to large animal handling, restraint, husbandry, and welfare standards.

Job description

The Large Animal Veterinary Technician lead would be a key member of the farm animal veterinary services team at Murdoch University. The role is intended to support delivery of clinical services and teaching on livestock health and welfare at Murdoch University and across Western Australia. This role involves working closely with the vet team, external veterinary practitioners, livestock farmers and students to deliver high-quality veterinary care to cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, camels, camelids and other production animals. It is largely a farm-based, ambulatory role with some hospital case management and stock/equipment management.

This role provides veterinary support for animals cared for by the Farm Animal Veterinary Services and large animal hospital teams, while leading the technical support in this space.

Your Key responsibilities
  • Lead the vet tech services, such as artificial insemination, sheep scanning, weighing, cattle hoof trimming and animal scoring, under the direction of the veterinary team.

What you’ll bring to the role

  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative, assume responsibility for tasks and projects and to resolve problems.
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as fitting seamlessly into a team environment.
