Job summary

The Department of Industry, Science and Resources in Melbourne is seeking a Laboratory Leader to provide strategic direction and operational management within the Analytical Services Branch. You will oversee a team of scientists and technicians delivering chemical analyses for environmental, food and pharmaceutical sectors, ensuring quality and timely outputs.

You will drive method validation, quality assurance, QA/QC programs and accreditation activities, ensuring compliance with ISO/IEC 17025

Qualifications

• Leadership experience in a scientific/quality setting.
• Extensive knowledge of analytical chemistry and lab operations.
• Experience with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.
• Ability to manage complex technical and regulatory issues.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and operational management within the laboratory.
• Coordinate workflows, priorities and resources to meet objectives.
• Lead and supervise scientific, technical and administrative staff.
• Provide high-level scientific advice on analytical chemistry and quality matters.
• Lead and oversee ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation compliance and quality systems.
• Oversee method validation, equipment traceability and proficiency testing.
• Plan, allocate and monitor operational resources within delegated authority.
• Manage stakeholder relations with regulators and accreditation bodies.
• Support recruitment and workforce development.
