Job summary

Healius Limited is recruiting for a Laboratory Assistant in the Molecular Infectious laboratory, with an evening shift from 4pm to midnight. The role supports the processing and testing of specimens, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating with a dynamic team to ensure quality results and patient outcomes.

Ideal candidates will have attention to detail, the ability to work under pressure, and a proactive approach to learning and following procedures.

Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in sample handling and results
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy lab
  • Willingness to follow procedures and quality/WH&S policies

Responsibilities

  • Prepare specimens for testing using molecular biology techniques
  • Receipting and processing specimens, including pre- and post-analytical handling
  • Operate pre-analytical and analytical instrumentation and equipment
  • Prepare reagents for molecular biology techniques
  • Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on equipment
  • Maintain accurate records of laboratory processes and procedures
  • Respond to general queries in the Molecular Infectious laboratory
  • Participate in training for techniques and instrument operation
  • Escalate issues to senior staff as required
  • Comply with accreditation, quality assurance and WHS requirements

About The Role

Schedule: Evening shift, 4pm to midnight. Incumbent will be required to work occasional weekends once competent.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Assistant to work in our Molecular Infectious laboratory. We are seeking an individual who is highly motivated to become part of a passionate, vibrant and engaged team. Your key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Preparing specimens for testing via molecular biology techniques.
  • Routine receipting and processing of specimens, including pre- and post-analytical handling.
  • Operating pre-analytical and analytical instrumentation and equipment.
  • Preparing reagents for use in molecular biology techniques.
  • Performing regular maintenance, cleaning and/or basic troubleshooting on instrumentation and equipment.
  • Maintaining accurate records of processes and procedures performed in the laboratory in a timely manner.
  • Responding to general queries received in the Molecular Infectious laboratory.
  • Participating in training for relevant techniques and instrumentation/equipment operation.
  • Escalating any issues to senior staff in the Molecular Infectious laboratory.
  • Complying with relevant accreditation, quality assurance and WHS requirements.
About You
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision as part of a team.
  • The ability to cope and thrive in a busy environment.
  • An understanding the importance of following procedures accurately.
  • A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures.
  • Previous laboratory experience is desirable, but not essential.
  • Certificate in Laboratory Techniques is desirable, but not essential.
Requirements

Ability to provide evidence of immunisation requirements, including Hepatitis B
