Job summary

The Garvan Institute of Medical Research – Moss Vale NSW is seeking an Animal Technician to care for mice used in medical research and to support research staff. The role involves breeding, maintenance and care of colonies in a cleanroom, with a physical workload including standing and moving throughout the shift.

Salary is $64,600+ super and salary packaging. Permanent, full-time position with opportunities for training and development, parental leave, and additional leave types.

Qualifications

• TAFE qualifications in Animal Technology or equivalent is desirable but not essential.
• Strong commitment to animal welfare and care.
• General experience handling rodents is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Care for mouse colonies and maintain housing in a cleanroom.
• Monitor animal health and report abnormalities to senior staff.
• Assist with feeding, watering and handling according to protocols.
• Maintain hygiene and record breeding and welfare data.
• Follow ethical and monitoring standards for animal care.
