Job summary

The Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a Kinship Support Worker for the Minbani Bebe Kinship Program in the Northern Territory. The role focuses on culturally safe engagement with Aboriginal families, kinship mapping, family meetings, and collaboration with DCF and other stakeholders to support carers and children.

Successful applicants will have qualifications in community services and at least five years’ experience in family or community work, with strong written skills for

Qualifications

  • Relevant experience in family support work, social work or community work.
  • Certificate IV in Community Services or Diploma in related discipline with at least five years’ work experience.
  • Resilience to work with vulnerable families and confidence to facilitate family meetings.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Good written skills and experience in writing case notes, assessments and reports.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake Family Finding activities.
  • Contribute to kinship and foster carer assessments.
  • Maintain accurate case notes, client records and program documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and other key stakeholders.
  • Participate in regular team meetings, supervision and professional development.
  • Maintain privacy, confidentiality and ethical practice.
  • Provide culturally responsive information and support to carers and families.
  • Promote the Minbani Bebe Kinship Program through community engagement activities.
  • Organise carer group and community activities with the support of the Manager.
  • Demonstrate sound administrative and computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Work flexible hours when required to support family meetings, community events and program activities.
  • Foster culturally safe practice by respecting Aboriginal families, communities, cultures and kinship systems.
