But what you might not know, is that we’re investing in renewable energy projects, including wind farms and big batteries, to help build a more sustainable and reliable future.

Our Big Battery is now live in Kwinana, we’re expanding the Warradarge Wind Farm, the WA EV Network has launched, and we have many other projects in the works.

We’re a purpose‑driven organisation, owned by the people of WA. Our commitment is to ensure all Western Australians have access to secure, reliable, and sustainable energy.

We believe that the benefits of renewable energy aren’t just for some, they’re for everyone.

This is where you come in.

Role Description:

The Junior Software Engineer is a newly created opportunity based in our Central Park, Perth office.

The Junior Software Engineer will be part of Technology & Business Services, focused on supporting the design and development of solutions and aligning to standards. The purpose of this position is to work in collaboration with other developers, agile teams, and business stakeholders to develop solutions that meet the business requirements, achieve initiative timelines, and align with set standards.

As we have many solutions across a variety of business units at Synergy, this role is designed as an entry level position to explore and grow several software engineering disciplines and languages including:

  • Designing and building APIs whilst considering appropriate protocols, resilience techniques, performance and security
  • Creating event streaming solutions that source large amounts of events from different systems and process events as they happen
  • Troubleshooting distributed systems, automating routine tasks, implementing quality controls and improving observability
  • Developing solutions with Kubernetes to run microservices and other applications that scale and are resilient
Job responsibilities:
  • Basic programming/scripting skills (e.g., Java, JavaScript, Python, PowerShell, or Bash), with familiarity in source control practices using Git.
  • Foundational understanding of APIs and web technologies (REST, HTTP, JSON, XML), along with basic knowledge of cloud, containerisation, integration concepts, and database/SQL fundamentals.
  • Develop skills and technical expertise across analysis, solution design, application development, testing, and the use of system design, programming practices, tools, platforms, and integrations.
  • Build an understanding of business functions and application landscapes while collaborating effectively with development teams, testers, project teams, and business stakeholders.
  • Deliver high-quality, compliant solutions by creating code, unit tests, and integration tests that align with Synergy standards, working within Agile teams to meet agreed timeframes.
  • Support and enhance Platform Engineering by improving stability, scalability, and performance to meet business needs while ensuring compliance with Synergy’s Regulatory Compliance Policy.
What you will bring:
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages, supported by a degree qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Strong problem-solving, strategic thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and software products, adapt to change, and thrive in dynamic environments.
  • Proactive and well‑organised, with strong time management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
