Job summary

Covalent is seeking a Laboratory Operations Specialist to support R&D and test campaigns at remote WA sites. You will plan, execute and document bench, pilot and industrial tests, oversee test work scopes, ensure SOPs and safety standards are followed, and communicate results to project stakeholders.

The role requires 1 year lab experience, relevant engineering degree, and adaptability to FIFO rosters. Working in a multidisciplinary team, you will plan equipment, manage consumables, and maintain

Qualifications

• 1+ year experience in metallurgical or chemical laboratories, or management of test programs is desirable.
• Tertiary qualifications in Chemical/Process/Metallurgical/Minerals Processing Engineering or related discipline.
• Strong report writing skills and ability to communicate findings clearly.
• Ability to work in remote/arid environmental conditions.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute laboratory test campaigns (bench, pilot, industrial).

Job description

• Support Covalent's Research & Development program, including planning, analysis and execution of internally conducted bench, pilot and industrial test campaigns
• Design and oversee concentrator and occasional refinery test work scopes
• Oversee external test work programs to determine design parameters and substantiate process design
• Analyse R&D samples in laboratories according to SOPs
• Prepare and maintain clear SOPs
• Liaise with Laboratory, Metallurgy, Geology and Operations site teams
• Communicate and report on trial progress, equipment and consumables
• Interpret, process and present project results to stakeholders
• Maintain laboratory safety and housekeeping standards
• Plan, purchase and maintain equipment and consumables
• Sample plants and dispatch samples to external laboratories and vendors
• Perform and validate mass balances with Process Engineers and Metallurgists
• Plan and implement laboratory operations for projects and test work programs
• Research relevant studies in Australia and overseas
• Participate in establishing a health and safety culture
• Ensure compliance with budget and expenditure protocols and procedures

Requirements

• 1 year experience in metallurgical or chemical laboratories, or management of test programs desired
• Tertiary qualifications in Chemical/Process/Metallurgical/Minerals Processing Engineering or related discipline
• Good report writing skills
• Ability to work in remote and/or arid environmental conditions
• Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements in laboratories and mine site environments
• Understanding of general laboratory practices
• Ability to work a 4:3 day-shift FIFO roster to the Mt Holland site
