Job summary

Federal Court Australia is seeking a Legal Associate to assist a Judge in day-to-day chambers and court management in Canberra. You will perform case preparation, research, data entry, and help prepare matters for hearing.

The role requires strong legal writing, organisational and interpersonal skills, with duties including assisting with judgments in accordance with the Court’s style guide and providing client service support.

Qualifications

  • Ability to undertake legal research and prepare reports and written material.
  • Sound organisational skills to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a team environment.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills when communicating with judiciary, legal professionals and staff.
  • Ability to operate word processing and court software.
  • Knowledge of Family Court functions and terminology is desirable or able to acquire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide case preparation and research assistance.
  • Assist with management of cases and data entry into the Court’s case management system.
  • Assist in preparation of matters for hearing.
  • Assist with judgments and drafting catch words, editing judgments per the court style guide.
  • Undertake administrative and client service duties and support chamber operations.
  • Perform other duties as required.
