Job summary

Federal Court Australia is seeking a Legal Associate to support judges of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 1) in family law matters. The role includes legal research, drafting, preparing matters for hearing, and providing courtroom and chamber assistance for judges at first instance and on appeal.

Travel interstate is expected. A law degree with strong academic record and post-admission experience is preferred, along with proficient use of electronic legal resources

Qualifications

• Legal research, analysis and drafting skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to prepare briefing materials, well‑drafted correspondence and case summaries.
• Willingness to travel interstate and work in a fast-paced court environment.

Responsibilities

• Provides research assistance to judicial officers.
• Assists with the operation of chambers and responds to enquiries.
• Assists judicial officers with case management and data entry into the Court’s system.
• Prepares matters for Court and Judge, including judgment writing and editing.
• Supports courtroom duties and running of chambers.
• Travels interstate with the judicial officer when required.
