Job summary

Rubix Solutions is seeking a skilled Java Developer to join a large-scale telecommunications provisioning platform. You will work across modern Spring Boot microservices and Grails applications, contributing to platform modernisation and ensuring high availability of business-critical systems.

You’ll design RESTful APIs, manage database migrations with Flyway on PostgreSQL, and collaborate with Angular frontend teams while improving legacy codebases and CI/CD pipelines.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of hands-on Java development experience
• Strong Java 8+ skills and object-oriented design
• Commercial experience with Spring Boot, Spring Web, Spring Data JPA & Spring Security
• Proficiency with Maven build processes
• Strong SQL skills and PostgreSQL or similar relational DB
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs
• Experience with Git and branching strategies
• Understanding CI/CD build, test and deployment pipelines
• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to work with legacy Grails/Groovy systems

Responsibilities

This is an excellent opportunity for a Java Developer to work across a diverse technology environment, combining modern Spring Boot microservices with established Grails applications. You’ll contribute to new features, platform modernisation and the ongoing improvement of complex, business-critical systems.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Develop, maintain and enhance a suite of Java and Spring Boot microservices
• Work across systems supporting order management, trouble ticketing, network configuration and API gateways
• Support and modernise legacy applications built with Grails and Groovy
• Design and implement RESTful APIs using OpenAPI specifications
• Create and maintain database migrations with Flyway across multiple PostgreSQL schemas
• Develop and optimise SQL queries, stored procedures and database logic
• Integrate the platform with external systems through REST APIsContribute to GitLab CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes
• Write unit and integration tests and maintain high code-quality standards
• Collaborate with frontend developers working with Angular
• Troubleshoot production issues and participate in support rotations when required
• Maintain technical documentation and contribute to team knowledge sharing

About You

You’re a capable Java Developer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and is comfortable working across both modern and legacy environments.

You’ll ideally bring

• At least three years of hands-on Java development experience
• Strong Java 8+ skills and a sound understanding of object-oriented design
• Commercial experience with Spring Boot, including Spring Web, Spring Data JPA and Spring Security
• Proficiency with Maven build processes and dependency management
• Strong SQL skills and experience with PostgreSQL or a comparable relational database
• Experience designing, developing and consuming RESTful APIs
• Confidence using Git and established branching strategies
• An understanding of CI/CD build, test and deployment pipelines
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
• The ability to navigate and improve complex legacy codebases
• Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach

Highly Regarded Experience in any of the following areas would be beneficial

• Groovy and the Grails framework
• Flyway or similar database migration tools
• GlassFish or other Java EE application servers
• GitLab CI/CD
• JMS or messaging technologies such as OpenMQ or ActiveMQ
• Distributed tracing using Spring Cloud Sleuth or Zipkin
• SonarQube, CodeNarc or comparable static-analysis tools
• Angular or other frontend technologies
• Telecommunications or network-provisioning systems
• Linux and Bash scripting
• Docker containerisation
• EnterpriseDB or Oracle PL/SQL compatibility features
