Job summary

Chubb Insurance in Melbourne is seeking an underwriter to meet production and profitability targets by underwriting new business, endorsements and renewals in line with Personal Lines criteria. You will also nurture relationships with new producers and service existing producers where allocations align with annual goals.

  • Product range in the Personal Lines Department.
  • Understanding the underwriting appetite of other Departments.
  • Insurance industry and Chubb’s position in the market.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor profitability of portfolio and provide feedback to improve if required.
  • Evaluate, accept or decline new business, endorsements or renewal business based on guidelines.
  • Collate underwriting information and refer risks outside authorities or guidelines.
  • Monitor competitors’ products and suggest wording changes to stay competitive.
  • Establish/build relationships with potential producers meeting guidelines.
  • Monitor workloads and notify team leaders if assistance is needed.
  • Assist appraisal and claims teams with queries.
  • Collaborate across departments for cross-marketing opportunities.

Job description

In this role, you will be responsible for meeting production and profitability targets by underwriting new business, endorsements, and renewals in line with the underwriting criteria issued by the Personal Lines Department. You will also be expected to build relationships with new producers and continue servicing existing producers where allocations are included in the individual’s annual goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor profitability of portfolio and provide constructive feedback on steps to improve if requiredEvaluate, accept or decline new business, endorsements or renewal business based on underwriting guidelines
  • Collate underwriting information and refer risks outside the scope of authorities issued or the underwriting guidelines to the Unit Manager with recommendations
  • Monitor competitors’ products and recommend changes to our wording to sustain competitive advantage
  • Where applicable, establish and build new relationships with potential producers (or refer to RM’s) who have prospective business that meets our underwriting guidelines
  • Monitor work loads and advise team leaders if assistance is required due to exceptional circumstances, i.e. seasonal business loads or personal vacation
  • Assist members of the appraisal section with any queries
  • Assist members of the claims department with any queries
  • Work with staff members in other departments to identify cross marketing opportunities as and when required
