TikTok's Audio Innovation team in Sydney seeks an Intelligent Audio Algorithm Research Intern (PhD) starting 2027. You will contribute to next‑generation intelligent audio understanding and processing, working on codecs and VR/AR scenarios within a leading multimedia lab.

You will advance research in GAN/Diffusion audio, wake‑up systems and NLP/ASR, collaborating with global standards groups and publishing in top venues. This internship provides hands‑on ML experience in immersive audio.

Qualifications

• Master's degree (research) or above in electronic information, computer, multimedia, machine learning, AI or related field.
• PhD in related majors is preferred for this internship.
• Experience with GAN/Diffusion audio processing, voiceprint wake‑up, sound event detection, ASR or NLP is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Research and implement the department's self‑developed next‑generation intelligent audio understanding and processing algorithm system.
• Implement and optimize intelligent audio codec and processing system for short‑video on demand, LIVE, VR/MR and other scenarios.
• Follow up and participate in domestic and international audio standards; write high‑quality technical proposals and promote intelligent audio standard work.

Welcome to the Audio Innovation team under TikTok's most pioneering research team – Multimedia Lab! We are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of immersive audio technology and standardization. Our work supports TikTok products such as short video, live‑streaming, content creation tools, VR/AR experiences, and more. We stay up‑to‑date with cutting‑edge research, participate in audio Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs) such as MPEG, 3GPP, and IETF, and conduct R&D using Machine Learning and neural network models (especially generative models) for immersive audio technology. Responsibilities

• Research and implement the department's self‑developed next‑generation intelligent audio understanding and processing algorithm system.
• Implement and optimize intelligent audio codec and processing system, responsible for application iteration in short‑video on demand, LIVE, VR/MR and other business scenarios.
• Follow up and participate in domestic and international audio standards, write high‑quality standard technical proposals, and promote domestic and international intelligent audio standard work.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree (research) or above in electronic information, computer, multimedia, machine learning, AI artificial intelligence, or related majors.
• Research experience in one or several fields such as GAN/Diffusion audio processing, voiceprint/wake‑up, sound event detection, automatic speech recognition, natural language processing, etc.
• Familiar with data structures and algorithms, deep network model design and tuning, proficient in open‑source tools such as Kaldi, TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc., and experience in model training and exploration of large‑scale training datasets is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD degree in related majors such as electronic information, computer, multimedia, machine learning, AI artificial intelligence.
• Hands‑on experience in machine learning/artificial intelligence/data processing areas.
• Priority will be given to those who have published papers in relevant international conferences or mainstream journals (ICASSP, Interspeech, ASRU, ICML, NeurIPS, AAAAI, etc.).
