Job summary
McCabes Lawyers is seeking a Lawyer to join our general insurance team in New South Wales. This full-time role offers structured learning, a mix of private and public sector work, and the chance to manage a portfolio of defendant institutional torts and personal injury claims under supervision.
You will conduct legal research, draft pleadings, advise clients, and participate in negotiations, mediations, and court proceedings, while collaborating with senior lawyers to develop defence strategies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Laws or equivalent.
- Current NSW practising certificate.
- Minimum 1 year post admission experience in general insurance matters.
- Strong knowledge of Australian tort law, civil procedure, and relevant legislation.
- Confidence to deal directly with clients and experts.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as in a team.
- Strong initiative, dedication and organisation with a client and commercial focus.
- Ability to manage a busy workload and meet tight deadlines.
- Commercial approach with effective negotiation skills.
Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of defendant institutional torts and personal injury claims from inception to resolution with adequate supervision.
- Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, and prepare various legal documents.
- Analyse complex legal issues, review case material, gather evidence, and assess liability and damages.
- Collaborate with senior lawyers to develop and execute defence strategies.
- Attend negotiations, mediations, and court proceedings.
- Provide ongoing legal advice and guidance to clients throughout the litigation process.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files, ensuring compliance with client service standards.
- Stay up to date with relevant legal developments and changes in legislation pertaining to institutional torts claims.
