Loreto Mandeville Hall Toorak in Melbourne seeks an experienced Instrumental Music Specialist (Flute) to deliver high-quality flute instruction within the school’s music program. You will guide students from beginner to advanced levels and support ensembles, including the Loreto Symphony Orchestra.

Availability on Wednesdays during the teaching day with before/after-school rehearsals. A valid Working with Children Check is required; VIT registration and keyboard skills are advantageous.

The position

We are seeking an experienced Instrumental Music Specialist (Flute) to join our highly skilled and dynamic Music Department, commencing Term 1, 2027. The successful candidate must be available on Wednesdays throughout the teaching day, as well as before and after school for rehearsals. The position reports to the Director of Music, with remuneration in accordance with VMTA rates.

As an Instrumental Music Specialist, you will contribute to the delivery of instrumental music across the curriculum and the School's broader Music Program. You will oversee the development and progress of the students you tutor, providing engaging and high-quality instruction that builds skill, confidence and musicianship. Central to the role is fostering a love of music and enabling each student to participate fully in the musical life of Loreto Toorak to the best of her ability.

Responsibilities

• Tutor an allocated list of instrumental students from beginner to advanced levels (VCE and Diploma)
• Liaise with the Director of Music and the relevant Head of Department in relation to student progress, repertoire, student assessment and performances, ensemble planning and the pastoral needs of students
• Foster a standard of excellence in music performance in examinations, recitals, concerts and other performance activities
• Direct Music Ensembles as required by the Director of Music
• Other duties as outlined in the position description

About You

You will be an accomplished and experienced Flute Specialist with a strong understanding of AMEB and VCE syllabi. An exceptional musician and performer, you will bring experience across a broad range of musical styles and contribute to the continued excellence of one of Loreto Toorak's flagship ensembles, the Loreto Symphony Orchestra. Experience working within compulsory Junior School Band programs, along with conducting, rehearsing and preparing ensembles for performance, will be highly regarded. Your excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, together with your ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic school environment, will be key to your success in the role. A current Working with Children Check (Employee) is mandatory, while VIT registration and keyboard skills would be advantageous.
