Job summary

Chandler Macleod Group is recruiting multiple AWS Installation Technicians for a Federal Government agency to support a nationwide upgrade of the Automatic Weather Station (AWS) network across 750+ sites. The role is hands-on, field-based, requiring installation, upgrade and commissioning of weather-observation infrastructure and travel to regional and remote locations.

You will work from maintenance hubs, adhere to engineering specs, safety standards and documentation practices (e.g., Maximo)

Qualifications

• Field installation and commissioning experience in a technical environment.
• Able to follow engineering specs, rollout schedules and safety requirements.
• Hands-on installation, configuration, calibration checks, acceptance testing and commissioning.
• Fault-finding/diagnostics during rollout and stabilisation.
• High safety focus; comfortable working in remote and challenging environments.
• Strong documentation skills (installation reports, commissioning records, defect logs) and asset/configuration recording (e.g., Maximo).
• Ability to work independently and within structured rollout teams.
• Professional stakeholder engagement skills (site access, landholders, contractors).

Responsibilities

• Install, upgrade and commission the Automatic Weather Station (AWS) network across 750+ sites.
• Travel to regional and remote locations to perform installations and commissioning.
• Follow engineering specifications, rollout schedules and safety guidelines during field work.
• Create installation reports, commissioning records and defect logs; maintain asset records (Maximo).
• Collaborate with hubs and field teams to ensure right-first-time installations.

Job description

Chandler Macleod is recruiting multiple AWS Installation Technicians for a Federal Government agency to support a major national upgrade of the Automatic Weather Station (AWS) network (750+ sites across Australia and offshore territories). This is a hands‑on, project‑based field role where you'll install, upgrade and commission critical weather‑observation infrastructure that supports forecasts and warnings for communities, emergency services, industry and government. You'll work from one of several maintenance hubs and travel to regional and remote locations to deliver safe, standardised, "right-first-time" installations.

Required Skills

• Proven field installation and commissioning experience in a technical environment
• Ability to work to engineering specifications, rollout schedules and safety requirements
• Strong hands‑on capability: installation, configuration, calibration checks, acceptance testing and commissioning
• Fault‑finding/diagnostics and defect rectification during rollout and stabilisation
• High safety focus; comfortable working in remote and challenging environments
• Strong documentation skills (installation reports, commissioning records, defect logs) and asset/configuration recording (e.g., enterprise asset systems such as Maximo)
• Ability to work both independently and within structured rollout teams
• Professional stakeholder engagement skills (site access, landholders, contractors)

Nice to Have Skills

• Familiarity with solar power systems, remote telemetry and communications
• Field commissioning and acceptance testing in distributed networks
• Experience in a maintenance organisation / operational technical environment

Preferred Education and Experience

• Certificate III (AQF Level 3 or above) in electronics or electrical (Australian), or comparable overseas qualification, or equivalent relevant training/experience
• A Diploma in electronics/electrical is advantageous

Other Requirements

• Australian Citizen (role requirement)
• Current Australian Driver's Licence
• Ability to undertake and pass a medical assessment
• Eligibility to obtain ASIC and/or MSIC
• Willingness to travel regularly, including multi-day/multi-week deployment blocks across NSW/VIC/SA/WA/TAS/NT/QLD
• Ability/experience (or willingness to obtain): Working at Heights, Remote First Aid, operate and maintain a 4WD
• Contract: Long term - 3 years with potential extension (40 hours/week)
