Job summary

State Government of Victoria, Australia is seeking an industry officer for Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct. You will train and supervise young people in vocational programs, helping them build daily routines and work habits in a custodial setting.

You must hold or be willing to obtain a Working with Children Check and first aid qualification, and complete a funded Certificate IV in Youth Justice as part of your role.

As an industry officer at Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct, you will support young people to build work skills, routines and confidence. You will do this in a safe, structured custodial environment with strong team support.

You will:

  • train and supervise young people in industries, vocational training and work programs
  • coach young people through daily routines, teamwork and positive behaviour.
  • role-model respectful relationships and pro-social behaviour
  • maintain safety through searches, supervision and dynamic risk assessment.

Our Industries team work on rostered shifts which will include some nights and weekends.

About you

We're looking for people with experience in horticulture, hospitality or warehousing to grow Malmsbury as a centre for education, enabling young people to find meaningful work when they return to the community. You must hold, or be willing to obtain, required clearances before starting. This includes a Working with Children Check and first aid qualification. You will also complete a fully funded Certificate IV in Youth Justice as part of your role.

You should also have:

  • relevant industry or trade experience, with strong safety knowledge
  • the ability to teach safe use of tools, machinery and equipment
  • confidence using computer systems for records and reporting
  • a collaborative approach and respect for diverse backgrounds.
