Job summary

Qualifications

Provide advice to management and staff on cultural and management issues pertaining to prisoners.
Contribute to case management and sentence management for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners.
Consult with relevant multicultural communities to support family contact for prisoners.

Responsibilities

Assist in case management ensuring program referrals and cultural issues are addressed during sentence.
Attend prisoner inductions, parole interviews, and reviews to support transition for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners.
Work in a multidisciplinary team to manage progression of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners and provide reports on assessments.
Liaise with prisoners' families, staff, and external agencies to ensure cultural needs are met.
Coordinate Elder visits and facilitate access to legal services for prisoners.
Contribute to staff awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoner needs.
Provide welfare services to ensure support during family issues, medical visits and hospital stays.
Assist with cultural programs and with exit reports and notes in IOMS.
