Job summary

The NSW Department of Education is seeking a Teacher Librarian to create an inclusive, accessible library supporting students with moderate to severe intellectual disability and additional support needs. The role emphasizes adapting literacy and library programs using AAC, visual supports, assistive technology and differentiated resources to maximise participation and independence.

Qualifications

• Approval to teach library or currently enrolled in librarian qualifications approved by the NSW Department of Education, with approval to teach special education and/or demonstrated experience teaching students with moderate to severe intellectual disability.
• Demonstrated ability to design, adapt and deliver high-quality personalised literacy plans for students with complex needs, using explicit teaching strategies to improve learning outcomes.
• Demonstrated ability to model, implement and promote effective multi-modal AAC strategies, supporting students with complex communication needs to access information, engage in learning and participate in meaningfully in library and educational environments.
• Demonstrated ability to respectfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, histories and cultures into library programs and literacy experiences, while working collaboratively with Aboriginal students, families, local community members and staff to create culturally safe, inclusive and accessible learning environments for students with complex learning and communication needs.
