Job summary

Blackbook Recruitment is seeking a Hygiene Manager for a large-scale Australian food manufacturing business in Sydney. Reporting to Site Leadership, you will lead and develop the hygiene function across manufacturing and distribution, shaping sanitation strategies and driving compliance with food safety and regulatory requirements.

You will manage the hygiene team and contractors, establish GMP cleaning standards, oversee audits, budgets and supplier relationships, and partner with Production,

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology or related discipline.
• Proven leadership in food manufacturing with hygiene, sanitation, quality or food safety exposure.
• Strong knowledge of GMP, sanitation and hygiene best practice.
• Experience in highly regulated manufacturing environments with customer and certification standards.
• Audit experience, either internal or external.
• Proactive, accountable and results-focused approach.

Responsibilities

This is an opportunity to join a large-scale Australian food manufacturing business with a significant production and distribution footprint, where food safety, hygiene and product integrity are critical to both operational performance and customer relationships.

The Role

Reporting to the Site Leadership Team, the Hygiene Manager will lead and develop the site's hygiene function, ensuring high sanitation standards across manufacturing and distribution operations. You will develop and implement hygiene strategies, drive compliance with food safety and regulatory requirements, and ensure hygiene performance supports production and quality objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading and developing the hygiene team and contractors.
• Establishing and maintaining GMP cleaning and sanitation standards.
• Ensuring compliance with food safety, quality, environmental and workplace safety requirements.
• Managing hygiene programs, sanitation systems, budgets and key supplier relationships.

• Using data, root cause analysis and continuous improvement to enhance hygiene performance.
• Collaborating with Production, Quality, Safety, HR and Site Leadership to deliver operational objectives.
• Managing hygiene programs across associated distribution facilities.

Your background

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• A tertiary qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology or a related discipline.
• Proven leadership experience in food manufacturing, with exposure to hygiene, sanitation, quality or food safety.
• Strong knowledge of GMP, sanitation, food safety systems and hygiene best practice.
• Experience in highly regulated manufacturing environments, including customer and certification standards.
• Internal and external audit experience.
• A proactive, accountable and results-focused approach.
