Job summary

Powertech Pty Ltd in Brisbane is seeking an Electrical Field Engineer-Protection Relay to lead commissioning, testing and maintenance of HV protection systems across diverse projects. You will work on HV substations, protection schemes, and power generation assets while ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence.

The role requires a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, 3+ years in protection systems, and hands-on experience with IEC 61850, GOOSE, and Omicron testing tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering with Engineers Australia recognition.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in protection systems, testing and commissioning.
• Solid understanding of power system protection principles and relay technologies.
• Experience with IEC 61850 and GOOSE messaging is highly regarded.
• Experience using Omicron testing tools.

Responsibilities

• Commissioning, testing, and maintenance of HV protection systems and schemes.
• Configuration, testing, and troubleshooting IEC 61850 and GOOSE communications.
• Testing and commissioning of HV substations, secondary systems, and primary plant.
• Providing technical leadership and mentoring to field technicians and engineers.
• Preparing commissioning documentation and protection test plans.
