Job summary

PlasmaLeap Technologies in Sydney, Australia is seeking an experienced WHS professional to lead hands-on safety across our manufacturing, workshop, laboratory and R&D environments, with a focus on chemical, electrical and mechanical risk.

You will maintain and improve HSEQ systems, conduct risk assessments and incident investigations, and build training records, compliance calendars and corrective actions to keep teams safe and compliant.

Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of WHS legislation, NSW requirements, codes of practice and relevant Australian Standards.
  • Confidence managing chemical, electrical and mechanical safety risks with practical, usable controls.
  • Experience with SWMS, risk assessments, audits, inspections, incident investigations, training records, compliance reporting and corrective action tracking.
  • Systems-minded and organised, with strong document control, KPI reporting, evidence management and basic quality or environmental compliance habits.
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to coach, challenge and influence engineers, scientists, technicians, contractors and managers.
  • Small-company or scale-up experience, especially where you have built systems and processes from scratch rather than only followed established corporate frameworks.
  • Highly regarded: ISO 9001 QMS experience, quality process setup, scaled manufacturing, supplier management, supplier audits, NCR/CAPA or external manufacturing exposure.
  • Relevant degree, qualification or equivalent professional experience in health and safety, quality, compliance or a related discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Lead hands-on, day-to-day WHS across our manufacturing, workshop, laboratory and R&D environments, with a practical focus on chemical, electrical and mechanical risk.
  • Maintain and improve practical HSEQ systems, including SWMS, risk registers, SDS records, training records, compliance calendars, quality/environmental records and corrective action tracking.
  • Spend time on the floor identifying hazards, strengthening controls and embedding daily safety routines such as shift-start checks, toolbox talks, inspections, audits and Gemba-style walks.
  • Lead incident investigations with strong root cause analysis, clear accountability and sustainable corrective actions.
  • Develop training frameworks, competency matrices and evidence records so workers are trained, refreshed and competent for higher-risk work.
  • Coordinate audits, inspections and compliance activities across WHS, quality and environmental obligations.
  • Support quality processes for scale-up, including document control, NCR/CAPA, supplier quality and external manufacturing partners.
  • Build scalable HSEQ tools for field trials, customer sites and future deployments across Australia and internationally.
  • Champion a proactive safety culture and report to the COO on risks, trends, KPIs, actions, gaps and priorities.
