Job summary

The Reject Shop is seeking an experienced HR Operations Lead to head our Employee Relations and Industrial Relations advisory centre, supporting leaders across 415 stores, four distribution centres and our Store Support Centre from Kensington.

You will lead a small HR Advisory team, manage investigations, interpret Awards and Enterprise Agreements, and drive improvements across HR Operations as we transition to Dollarama Australia.

Qualifications

  • Strong ER and IR experience in a multi-site environment, ideally within retail, hospitality or another award-covered industry.
  • Confidence interpreting Modern Awards and Enterprise Agreements, and managing claims through the Fair Work Commission.
  • A generalist HR background, with experience across the employee lifecycle rather than solely employee relations.
  • Genuine stakeholder management capability, with the ability to influence, challenge and support operational leaders while maintaining strong working relationships.
  • Experience leading or coaching others, with a focus on capability building and team development.
  • Comfort working within ambiguity and change, with the flexibility and resilience to help shape a function that continues to evolve.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the Employee Relations and Industrial Relations advisory service, delivering timely, consistent and legally sound advice and end-to-end support on misconduct, performance, grievances, probation and everything in between, supported by a tiered model, clear response standards and escalation pathways.
  • Supporting leaders through people processes, preparing documentation and approaches that ensure matters are managed consistently, fairly and defensibly while empowering leaders to own conversations and decisions.
  • Identifying trends and corrective actions through case data analysis, recognising opportunities by site, region, leader and root cause, and partnering with Operations, Partnering, Safety & Asset Protection and Payroll to drive sustainable improvements.
  • Providing expert industrial relations support, including Enterprise Agreement and Award interpretation, bargaining support, and day-to-day engagement with unions and employee representatives.
  • Leading internal investigations, including matters arising from Safety & Asset Protection activity, while maintaining procedural fairness and robust investigation standards.
  • Delivering project work across HR Operations, including process redesign, policy and template refreshes, systems improvements, reporting enhancements and initiatives supporting the transition to Dollarama Australia.
  • Leading and developing two HR Advisors, building capability and supporting the ongoing growth of the advisory function.

Job description

You've seen the headlines. You've heard the hype.

The Reject Shop is now part of global retail giant Dollarama, and we're building something big.

2026 is set to be a huge year. Our store network is expanding, our customer experience is evolving, and we're growing towards 700 stores. Behind the scenes, our Store Support Centre is laying the foundations for this transformation, and our People & Culture team is right at the centre of it.

We're looking for an HR Operations Lead to lead our Employee Relations and Industrial Relations advisory centre. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll support leaders across more than 415 stores, four distribution centres and our Store Support Centre, while leading and developing a small HR Advisory team. If you're passionate about employee relations, industrial relations, leadership development and operational improvement, this is an opportunity to make a significant impact as we continue to grow.

This role is based in our Kensington Store Support Centre.

What you'll be doing
What you'll bring
What we can offer you
  • A role with real scope, in a function being rebuilt rather than maintained.
  • Direct exposure to bargaining, executive stakeholders and national projects, providing experience that's difficult to gain in a narrower ER role.
  • Inclusive and collaborative team culture.
  • A flat, fast-paced business where every idea matters.
  • Hybrid work model.
  • Team Member discount of 15% for you and an immediate family member.
  • Paid parental leave for primary and secondary caregivers.
  • Employee Assistance Program – free and confidential support for you and your family.
  • Ongoing opportunities to learn, develop and grow your career as we continue to expand.

This is more than an HR Operations role. It's an opportunity to help shape the future of our People & Culture function as we transition to Dollarama Australia. You'll play a key role in supporting leaders through complex people matters, improving how we deliver HR advisory services, and building the foundations needed to support our growth from 400 stores to 700.
